FOR THE GROWN-UP BESIDE HER

A plan for confidence, not cramming.

THE RIGHT STARTING GROUP

Check the cutoff, not just today’s age.

SBOC’s 2027 registration page lists Primary: ages 6–8 and Junior: ages 9–11, using age on December 31, 2026. If she is eight on that date, Primary applies. If she is nine then, check Junior. Confirm directly before registering.

Rules & preparation boundaries

The official guide and the organizer’s decisions take priority, including accepted spelling variants. SBOC uses oral spelling; capitals must be indicated. Published list-round and tie-breaker clue rules differ. We do not claim any practice-bank word appeared in a past bee. The published 2024 championship also used Primary, Junior and Intermediate age groups; this app uses the current registration page for cutoff guidance, not old FAQs.

A KIND, REPEATABLE ROUTINE

Notice → recall → return.

  1. Explore: read a few meanings and sentences. Say the word and notice one tricky part.
  2. Recall: cover the spelling. Hear it, say it, spell it, then check.
  3. Return: revisit mistakes later that day and on later days. Mix familiar and new words.
  4. Rehearse: do a short parent-led oral round. Praise clear listening and brave attempts, not just the score.

Start with 3 new words and 5 reviews rather than racing through the whole bank. Three clean recalls are a useful practice milestone, not proof of competition readiness.
